Privacy & Terms

The short version: Rusty doesn't collect anything. The app runs entirely on your machine, sends no telemetry, and the full source is open for you to read. The details are below.

No telemetry · No accounts · Open source

Rusty is a local-first command-line tool. It does not phone home, create user profiles, or transmit your code, prompts, or usage to us or anyone else. We — PDG Global Limited — operate the website and publish the software, but we never receive your data from the app.

1. Data we collect

From the Rusty app: none. The application collects no analytics, no telemetry, no crash reports, and no personal information. There are no accounts to create and no logins. Nothing about how you use Rusty is sent to us.

Because there is no collection, there is correspondingly nothing for us to store, sell, share, or lose. Your code and your prompts stay on your own machine.

2. How the app works

Rusty runs as a single binary on your computer. When you ask it to do something, it reads the files in your project locally and prepares a request for the AI model you have configured. The only outbound network connection Rusty makes for normal operation is to that model endpoint of your choosing.

  • Your code is read locally and only the context needed for your request is sent to your chosen model.
  • Commands run in a sandbox, and Rusty asks for your approval before it edits, deletes, or executes anything.
  • Configuration and history are stored locally on your machine, under your control.

3. Third-party model providers

When you point Rusty at a model provider — whether a local runtime or a hosted API such as OpenAI, Anthropic, or an open-weights model you run yourself — your requests are subject to that provider's privacy policy and terms, not ours. You choose the provider and hold the credentials. We have no visibility into, and no responsibility for, what a third-party provider does with the requests you send it.

If privacy is paramount, run an open-weights model locally so nothing leaves your network at all.

4. This website

This marketing site is intentionally lightweight. It does not set advertising cookies or build a profile of you. Your browser may store a single local preference (your chosen color theme) on your own device; that value never leaves your browser. Standard server logs may be retained transiently by our hosting provider for security and reliability, and are not used to identify you.

5. Terms of use

Rusty is provided "as is," without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to the warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. To the maximum extent permitted by law, PDG Global Limited shall not be liable for any claim, damages, or other liability arising from the use of the software.

Rusty can edit files and run commands on your machine. You are responsible for reviewing its proposed actions before approving them and for keeping backups of your work. You agree to use the software in compliance with all applicable laws and with the terms of any model provider you connect.

6. License & source code

Rusty is free and open-source software, licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 (AGPL-3.0). The complete source code is available on GitHub, where you are welcome to read it, audit it, build it yourself, and verify every claim on this page. Your use, modification, and distribution of Rusty are governed by the terms of the AGPL-3.0.
